Teenage sensation Charlotte Fleming has today signed her first professional terms with Barclays FA Women’s Super League champions Chelsea according to reports on The Blues’ official website.
The 18-year-old midfielder is one of the brightest young talents to come out of the South West Londoners’ academy system in recent years and first team boss Emma Hayes clearly has faith in her ability.
It has today been revealed that Fleming has signed her first professional deal at Kingsmeadow. The news comes eight years on from the player initially joining Chelsea’s academy system and marks her official graduation into the senior team.
Fleming already has some experience of first team football with The Blues. The youngster was named in three of manager Emma Hayes’ matchday squads last season and she was handed two starts in the domestic cup competitions against struggling FA Women’s Championship sides Lewes and Charlton Athletic. Injury temporarily halted her progress but the player is now gearing up for her first campaign as a professional.
Despite boasting a squad packed with top class multi-national talent, Chelsea manager Hayes is still willing to offer first team opportunities to youth. Last season saw teenage striker Emily Murphy hit the headlines for The Blues and former academy colleague Fleming will be keen to follow a similar path.
