American midfielder is first signing of the summer at London City Lionesses

American midfielder Alli Murphy is new London City Lionesses head coach Lisa Fallon’s first signing according to reports on The Pride’s official club website.

The 26-year-old Plano-born midfielder joins the FA Women’s Championship club following a spell playing in the Icelandic Urvalsdeild league with UMF Selfoss.

Murphy’s arrival at Princes Park was expected with the player having revealed via her personal Twitter account that she was heading for the club yesterday.

Murphy began her senior career in 2015 with Texas Tech University before going on to represent National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Washington Spirit a year later as they finished runners-up to Portland Thorns in the regular season. A spell with Houston Dash followed before the midfielder moved to The Netherlands where she played Eredivisie Vrouwen football with PEC Zwolle.

In 2019, Murphy moved to Iceland where she has tested herself with UWF Selfoss, a club which finished in fourth position in her only full season at the club. She will now aim to help latest club London City Lionesses achieve their Barclays FA Women’s Super League dream.

After agreeing to join The Pride, Murphy said “I can’t wait to get to Princes Park and start training with the rest of the London City Lionesses.

“I’m excited for the direction that the club is going and the ambition that the coaching staff have for this team. I’m a competitor at heart and I can’t wait to get started.”
