Former Arsenal striker Danielle Carter has joined Reading according to reports on The Royals’ official website.
Carter made 184 appearances for The Gunners having first broken onto the scene in 2009. In that time, she amassed 60 goals for The Gunners and earned herself four England senior international caps while she scored six goals for the Lionesses.
The forward has seen her career plighted by a series of injuries in recent years which have limited her game time at Arsenal and with the irrepressible Vivianne Miedema leading the front line for Joe Montemurro’s side it was always going to be a struggle for Carter to break into the starting XI.
Carter was released by Arsenal at the end of last season as her contract at Meadow Park came to an end.
After completing her first signing of the summer in Carter, Reading boss Kelly Chambers told The Royals’ official media channels “I am extremely excited to bring Dan to the club.
“I have watched her career for many years and have always loved the way she plays. She is an exciting, explosive player who is definitely one to get the fans on their feet. Dan is a great addition to the team and also a great person to have in the group. I cannot wait to work with her and get her back to what she does best, which can be world class.”
With so many teams strengthening going into the new season, the 2020/2021 campaign is already shaping up to be one of the most exciting and competitive years in recent memory.
