Reading manager Kelly Chambers has unveiled Scotland international left-back Emma Mitchell as her second summer signing.
The 27-year-old Kirkcaldy-born defender moves to Adams Park from former Barclays FA Women’s Super League champions Arsenal.
The signing of Mitchell was announced on Reading’s official website this afternoon, just minutes after it was revealed that her former Arsenal colleague Danielle Carter had also completed a move to the Berkshire club.
Mitchell was always expected to leave Arsenal this summer. The Scot had been out of favour at Meadow Park and spent part of last season on loan at The Gunners’ North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. The defender also announced during a live broadcast on BBC Alba that she would be representing a new club in 2020/2021.
Despite her lack of football at Meadow Park of late, Mitchell’s time as an Arsenal player has still been a big success. The player won one Barclays FA Women’s Super League title, two Women’s FA Cups and three FA Women’s Continental League Cups with The Gunners while she also represented the club in European competition.
Today’s double-signing at Reading will give the club a big boost after several long-serving members of the squad departed at the end of last season.
