Blackburn Rovers centre-back Kayleigh McDonald has signed a new contract with the club for the upcoming campaign according to reports on Rovers’ official website.
The 26-year-old tough-tackling defender has been with Blackburn Rovers since 2016 and it has been reported that she has agreed professional terms with the Lancashire club for the coming season.
McDonald played an instrumental role at the heart of the defence for Gemma Donnelly’s side last season as the club finished in seventh place in their debut campaign in the second tier. She was one of just three players who played in all 12 FA Women’s Championship games for Rovers. The defender is likely to start the new campaign with a suspension after being sent-off at Sheffield United in her side’s final game of the 2019/2020 season.
The defender represented Everton in the early days of her career before joining Blackburn Rovers from Mossley Hill four years ago. McDonald helped Rovers to promotion from the FA Women’s National League Northern Division in 2019 before playing her part in the club establishing themselves in the second tier.
McDonald joins teammates Saffron Jordan, Ellie Stewart and Natasha Fenton in extending her contract at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium for the coming season.
