Former Leicester City defender joins Coventry United as midfielder signs new deal

Coventry United have announced that they have acquired the services of former Birmingham City and Leicester City defender Georgia Popple while midfielder Beth Merrick has signed a new contract at the Butts Park Arena for the coming season.

Defender Popple moves to the Butts Park Arena after spending one season with Leicester City in the FA Women’s Championship during which she made three appearances. It is understood that the player has signed a one-year deal with Jay Bradford’s side.

Popple’s move to Coventry United was confirmed on the club’s official Twitter account earlier today.

In other news, midfielder Merrick has signed on at the Butts Park Arena for the new season. The player joined Coventry United from Sheffield United in January 2019 and she helped the club over the line as they won promotion from the third tier in 2019 before playing her part in the club recording a tenth-place finish in the FA Women’s Championship last season. Merrick made 12 appearances for Coventry United in the second tier with nine of those being starts.

Coventry United announced Merrick’s new deal on their official Twitter account this evening.

Popple and Merrick join defender Nikki Miles in having their places confirmed in the Coventry United squad for the new season. Miles’ new contract was the first of the three deals announced by the club today.
