Charlton Athletic midfielder Charley Clifford has signed a new contract with the club for the coming season according to reports on The Addicks official website.
The 27-year-old is very much a fans’ favourite at The Oakwood after making 265 senior appearances for the club. She is just eight appearances away from becoming Charlton Athletic’s all-time record appearance holder.
Clifford is set to write her name into the Charlton Athletic history books in 2020/2021 with the player having agreed a new deal which will hopefully allow her to play the games needed to reach her appearance milestone.
The midfielder is very much a one club player. She came through Charlton Athletic’s Centre of Excellence and has represented the club at first team level for the best part of a decade. Last season, Clifford made 10 appearances for The Addicks in the FA Women’s Championship, scoring four goals. Riteesh Mishra’s side never lost when Clifford was on the scoresheet.
After finishing the 2019/2020 campaign bottom of the FA Women’s Championship on a points per game basis, Charlton Athletic boss Mishra needs leaders to help his side climb the table this season. Given Clifford’s experience in a red and white shirt, she is certainly a player which you would put in that ‘leader’ category.
