Midfielder Sophie Walton has today joined FA Women’s Championship side Sheffield United ahead of the 2020/2021 season as reported on The Blades’ official website.
Walton has spent one-year with FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division side Nottingham Forest before making the switch up north.
She returns to Yorkshire where she has enjoyed spells with Leeds United, Doncaster Rovers Belles and Guiseley Vixens earlier in her career.
After joining Sheffield United, Walton told the club’s official media channels “I’m over the moon to have got the deal done.
“It took me a while after having my first child to probably get back to the level I used to be at but I want to play at the highest level I can and I wanted and needed to push myself.
“I only heard good things from last season and hopefully we can go one better this season.
“I know a few of the players. I’ve played with Lea and Kasia and Jade with Doncaster Belles but I like to get involved straight away and get to know people, but it always helps having a few familiar faces.”
Despite still not having a new manager in place with less than a month to go until the start of the season, United are still making big waves in the transfer market. The news of Walton’s arrival is United’s second signing in as many days on the back of yesterday’s news that Ellie Wilson would also be joining the club. The club have also signed former Aston Villa top scorer Mel Johnson which means that The Blades are likely to have the most formidable attacking line-up in the division.
Given the quality of the Sheffield United squad, many managers would undoubtedly jump at the chance to lead them into the new season so we should expect an announcement on the managerial situation soon.
