Former Manchester United midfielder Charlotte Newsham has returned to FA Women’s Championship side Blackburn Rovers on a free transfer according to reports on the Lancashire club’s official website.
The 20-year-old came through Rovers’ Regional Talent Centre (RTC) before later going on to spend time with both Manchester City and Manchester United.
She will test herself in the second tier of the women’s game for the very first time this season after enjoying a loan spell in the third tier with FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division club Huddersfield Town last term.
Newsham made 13 appearances for The Terriers in all competitions last season while the player netted two goals.
The midfielder is a Scottish Under-19 international. Newsham has been capped by The Tartan Army at that level on 11 occasions and she is now set to move up to the next age group. Her last appearance in a Scotland shirt came 12 months ago as her nation were defeated 4-0 by The Netherlands at the 2019 UEFA Under-19 Women’s Championship in Paisley.
Upon signing on at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium, Newsham told official Blackburn Rovers media sources “When I first spoke to Gemma about coming back, obviously I was here as a youngster so I know all about the club and it’s just great to get back to playing football after lockdown.
“Coming back here, I feel like I’ve settled in well with the girls and I just can’t wait to get started.”
Newsham could make her senior Rovers debut when they travel to Leicester City on the opening day of the FA Women’s Championship season.
