The 2020/2021 Barclays FA Women’s Super League season will kick-off at Villa Park with Aston Villa’s first top flight fixture against Manchester City having been selected for live television coverage.
Villa have opted to play the match at their traditional home of Villa Park rather than at The Banks’s Stadium, home of Walsall FC. The fixture will be staged on Saturday 5 September and will kick-off at 2.30pm with the game being televised live on BT Sport.
Gemma Davies’ side face one of the biggest possible tests in their maiden Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture with Gareth Taylor’s Manchester City providing some stern opening day opposition. City are former champions of England while they have been a permanent fixture in the top two league positions during the last half-decade. In 2017/2018, the club reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League, an achievement which highlights their status as a major European force.
The remaining five opening weekend fixtures in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League will take place on Sunday 6 September. The early game will see Arsenal face Reading at Meadow Park, that game kicking-off at 12.30pm and being broadcast live on the BBC Red Button while Manchester United’s home clash with Chelsea will be screened live on BT Sport 1 at 2.30pm.
Brighton & Hove Albion’s home game against Birmingham City, Bristol City’s first match at Twerton Park against Everton and the London derby between Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United will all kick-off at 2pm.
