Former Liverpool boss Neil Redfearn has been unveiled by Sheffield United as their new head coach as reported on The Blades’ official website.
The 55-year-old replaces former Sheffield United boss Carla Ward who left the FA Women’s Championship club last month and has since been appointed the new manager of Birmingham City.
Redfearn holds an impressive coaching CV which includes an array of first team and academy managerial and coaching roles both in the men’s and women’s games. In the men’s game, the Yorkshireman is best known for his spells in charge of Leeds United and Rotherham United’s senior sides while Redfearn has most recently been working in the Newcastle United academy system with their Under-23s. In 2017, Redfearn took his first job in the women’s game as manager of Doncaster Rovers Belles. He guided The Belles to the FA Women’s Super League 2 title before moving to Liverpool Women in summer 2018.
Moving to Liverpool did not prove to be a successful choice for Redfearn. He assembled a talented young squad but resigned after just one game in charge, a 5-0 humbling at Arsenal on the opening day of the 2018/2019 FA Women’s Super League season.
Redfearn will take charge of his new side for the first time when Sheffield United travel to the London City Lionesses on the opening day of the 2020/2021 FA Women’s Championship season.
