Charlton Athletic have completed the signing of full-back Bethan Roe on a season-long loan deal from Barclays FA Women’s Super League club Brighton & Hove Albion according to reports on The Addicks’ official website.
The 20-year-old’s move to The Oakwood was announced by the South East Londoners ahead of their FA Women’s Championship fixture at Blackburn Rovers this afternoon.
Roe went on to play 90 minutes for Riteesh Mishra’s side as they recorded a first victory in the second tier since May 2019.
The defender was out of favour at parent club Brighton & Hove Albion last season. She made the bench for seven Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixtures but never made an appearance. The youngster will now benefit from regular first team football this season with loan club Charlton Athletic.
Roe was on the books of Norwich City as a youth before representing Worthing College. Since joining Brighton & Hove Albion she has helped the club transition from an FA Women’s Championship club into a top tier side.
Speaking to Charlton Athletic’s official media sources ahead of her debut, she said “I am really excited to get going with the girls. I have settled in really well and the girls have all made me feel right at home.
“I can’t wait to get out on the pitch. There is a great squad here and last year was not representative of the quality we have here. Hopefully I can get amongst the goals and help the team get as many wins as possible.”
Charlton Athletic have handed Roe their number three shirt for the remainder of the season.
