Aston Villa forward stars as Denmark net eight in Malta

Aston Villa forward Stine Larsen put in an impressive showing as Denmark defeated Malta 8-0 in Ta’ Qali this evening in their latest UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 qualifying match.

The 24-year-old scored one goal and created another as Lars Sondergaard’s side recorded a very easy victory over a Maltese side ranked 101st in the world.

Larsen opened the scoring in the seventh minute of the match at the Centenary Stadium before former Manchester City forward Nadia Nadim made it 2-0 just a minute later. The Paris Saint-Germain forward scored Denmark’s third goal in the 42nd minute as they took a 3-0 lead into the break.

Sanne Troelsgaard Nielsen scored the fourth a minute after the interval before Danish captain Pernille Harder’s effort soon made it 5-0.

Maltese substitute Nicole Sciberras then put the ball into her own net before Larsen set up Signe Bruun to score. Troelsgaard Nielsen completed the scoring with an eighth in the 73rd-minute as Denmark remained at the top of their qualification group.

Villa forward Larsen was joined in the Danish starting XI by three other Barclays FA Women’s Super League players. In addition to Chelsea ace and Danish captain Harder, Everton duo Rikke Sevecke and Nicoline Sorensen also featured in Sondergaard’s side in Ta’ Qali.
