Everton have secured their place in the 2019/2020 Vitality Women’s FA Cup final with a 3-0 victory over fellow Barclays FA Women’s Super League side Birmingham City at the SportNation.bet Stadium in Solihull this evening.
The Blue Girls went into the match striving to reach their first Vitality Women’s FA Cup final in six years while opponents Birmingham City’s last final appearance at Wembley was back in 2017 when they lost 4-1 to Manchester City.
Everton’s Rikke Sevecke saw an early effort rebound off the crossbar after the hosts had failed to clear the danger following a corner kick.
The first half looked set to end goalless until Izzy Christiansen played an excellent first time pass in behind the Birmingham City defence and Simone Magill took a touch to set herself before hammering the ball into the net, giving her side a 44th-minute lead.
The home side looked to be growing in confidence after the break and began to create some chances of their own as they tried to find their way back into the game. Their hopes were dashed on the hour when Ingrid Moe Wold dinked in a wonderful cross towards the back post and Nicoline Sørensen side-footed the ball into the goal, leaving Hannah Hampton helpless.
Carla Ward’s Birmingham City side piled on the pressure in the closing minutes of the match, however, they were unable to make that pressure pay and set up a nervy finish. Two minutes from the end, Everton were able to pass the ball through the tired Birmingham City defence leaving substitute Valerie Gauvin through on goal and she drilled home her side’s third goal of the evening.
Everton will now take on either Manchester City or Arsenal in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup final on Sunday 1 November.
