Manchester City players dominate latest England squad

England manager Phil Neville has named no less than 11 Manchester City players in his squad for the Lionesses’ upcoming international friendly fixture with Germany later this month.

Neville’s side take on the Germans at the Brita-Arena in Wiesbaden on Tuesday 27 October in what will be their first competitive outing in more than seven months.

The Football Association have this morning revealed Neville’s 28-player group for the upcoming camp with Manchester City players making up a significant percentage of the squad. Goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck has again been selected while City defenders Lucy Bronze, Steph Houghton, Esme Morgan, Alex Greenwood and Demi Stokes have also been included. In midfield, Jill Scott, Georgia Stanway and Keira Walsh have all been selected alongside attacking club teammates Chloe Kelly and Ellen White.

Neville’s selection offers an interesting debate with England facing Germany just five days before Manchester City and Everton contest the Vitality Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley. With two Everton players also named in the England squad in Sandy MacIver and Izzy Christiansen, it will be interesting to see whether Neville offers them protection ahead of the Wembley showpiece.

As previously seen in September’s camp, the England squad will play an in-house friendly prior to flying out to Germany. That game will take place at St George’s Park on Friday 23 October.
