Reading quintet named in Ludlow’s Welsh squad

Wales boss Jayne Ludlow has selected five Reading players in her squad for the nation’s upcoming UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 qualifiers against the Faroe Islands and Norway later this month.

Ludlow’s side are currently in second position in their qualifying group, seven points adrift of leaders Norway with three games remaining and the play-offs now look like the nation’s greatest hope of securing a place in the tournament finals in England.

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) announced Ludlow’s latest squad via their official website this morning with Reading players dominating the call-ups. The Royals quintet Jess Fishlock, Angharad James, Rachel Rowe, Natasha Harding and Lily Woodham have all been included in Ludlow’s 26-player squad.

Wales are scheduled to take on group minnows the Faroe Islands at Rodney Parade on Thursday 22 October before facing a much tougher assignment against group leaders Norway at the Cardiff City Stadium five days later.

In other squad news, Coventry United goalkeeper Olivia Clark has earned herself a recall while young Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Josie Longhurst has been named in the senior squad for the very first time after impressing in the Under-19 group.
