Coventry United’s FA Women’s Championship fixture against Blackburn Rovers at the Butts Park Arena on Sunday has been postponed as a result of positive Covid-19 tests in the home camp.
The Football Association revealed this week’s Covid-19 test results yesterday, informing FA Women’s Super League Full-Time that 10 positive tests had been recorded from 699 tests across the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and FA Women’s Championship, a significant increase on previous weeks’ tallies.
FA Women’s Championship club Coventry United have this evening released a short statement confirming that some of those positive tests relate to members of their first team squad. In the interest of safety of players, staff and their opponents, Coventry United have come to an agreement with The Football Association to postpone Sunday’s home fixture against Blackburn Rovers.
A new date for the postponed fixture will now be agreed between the two clubs with a further update to be provided in due course.
It is not yet known whether Coventry United’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup group fixture against Aston Villa on Tuesday evening, a side who themselves have recently been in isolation, and their league fixture at Crystal Palace a week on Sunday will go ahead. Again, further updates are expected to be made by the club in due course once the impact of the positive Covid-19 tests have been fully assessed.
