Barclays FA Women’s Super League rivals Everton and Manchester United meet on Wednesday evening as they contest an FA Women’s Continental League Cup fixture at Walton Hall Park.
Both sides lost their opening group fixtures against Manchester City and Liverpool and only a win will do on Merseyside tomorrow night if either side is to have any chance of progressing to the last eight.
Everton come into the match after battling so bravely in their eventual defeat to Manchester City in the 2019/2020 Vitality Women’s FA Cup final on Sunday. The Blue Girls gave their all in that match and looked out on their feet come the end therefore manager Willie Kirk could opt to make some changes to his side for the Manchester United fixture. French international Valerie Gauvin was one player who is sure to have come off the Wembley turf battered and bruised and she could be rested. Winger Claire Emslie is available for selection once again after being ineligible to face Manchester City.
Manchester United have a good record in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup in recent seasons and manager Casey Stoney will be keen to see her side continue that trend. The United boss did make changes in her side’s 3-1 defeat at Liverpool in their first group match, however, a strong line-up was fielded. Goalkeeper Emily Ramsey may be given another chance to impress while Kirsty Hanson, Hayley Ladd, Lucy Staniforth and Christen Press could be amongst those players possibly set to be handed recalls.
Everton’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup fixture against Manchester United is scheduled to take place at Walton Hall Park and will kick-off at 7pm. Highlights are likely to be made available on the FA Player.
