Manchester United forward handed first senior international call-up

Manchester United forward Lauren James has been handed a first senior international call-up to the England squad.

Phil Neville’s 29-player group for the upcoming training camp was revealed by The Football Association earlier today with James named amongst the squad for the very first time.

The 19-year-old has recently returned to action for her club following injury and has finally received senior England recognition following a dazzling 15 months playing in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

England were scheduled to face Norway in an international friendly at Bramall Lane in Sheffield on 1 December, however, the match was cancelled last week due to the travelling complications facing the visitors. Neville’s side will now come together at St George’s Park on Sunday for a 10-day mid-season training camp. The Lionesses boss will again split his group in half as they contest two ‘home’ and ‘away’ inter-squad friendly matches.

Manchester City players again dominate Neville’s squad with 13 call-ups while Manchester United and Arsenal have four. Liverpool forward Rinsola Babajide is the only FA Women’s Championship player to receive an invite into the squad.
