PREVIEW: Everton v Liverpool

Merseyside bragging rights are on the line on Wednesday evening when Everton and Liverpool meet at Walton Hall Park in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup.

Both sides need a victory to keep their qualification hopes alive after losing their previous matches in the competition.

Everton were defeated 3-1 by Manchester City in their only group game while Liverpool saw off Manchester United 3-1 but lost 3-0 to The Cityzens in their last match.

Following his side’s 1-1 draw with Reading at the weekend, Everton boss Willie Kirk bemoaned The Blue Girls’ decision making and he could make changes to his starting XI for the visit of Liverpool. Kirk could opt to inject the pace of Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah into the match while the likes of Damaris Egurrola and Abbey-Leigh Stringer could be pushing for starts. The first group match saw Tinja-Riikka Korpela fielded in goal and that could again be the case on Wednesday evening.

Everton will again be without striker Valerie Gauvin who is sidelined until the New Year with a muscle problem.

Liverpool endured a similar outcome to their Merseyside rivals at the weekend as they were frustrated by Blackburn Rovers in a goalless draw at The Sir Tom Finney Stadium. The Reds were wasteful with the chances that came their way and manager Vicky Jepson could opt to make some subtle changes to her side, although she does not have the same squad depth as opposite number Kirk.

Everton’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup fixture against Liverpool will kick-off at 7pm on Wednesday evening and will be available to stream live on The Blue Girls’ official YouTube channel.
