Arsenal defender Leonie Maier could collect her 75th senior international cap for Germany this afternoon when they take on Greece in their penultimate UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 qualifier.
Germany take on the side who are currently occupying the second-bottom position in their qualifying group at the Audi Sportpark in Ingolstadt with qualification for England 2022 already secured.
German head coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg could opt to make changes to her side for the match and should Arsenal defender Maier be selected, she will collect her 75th senior international cap for her country.
After representing Germany at various youth levels, Maier made her senior debut for the nation in 2013. The defender has been a regular in the side ever since, representing her country at the UEFA Women’s EURO 2013, the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015, the 2016 Olympic Games, the UEFA Women’s EURO 2017 and the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019.
As a senior German player, Maier has won the UEFA Women’s EURO in 2013 and the Algarve Cup the following year. She was also a Gold Medal winner with her country at the Olympic Games in 2016 in Brazil.
Maier has started just one of Germany’s six qualifying matches for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 to date but she will be hoping to be given another opportunity this afternoon and in-turn, collect her 75th cap.
