Manchester City forward could make long-awaited return against Everton

Manchester City forward Lauren Hemp could make her long-awaited return from injury this weekend as Gareth Taylor’s side travel to Everton in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

The 20-year-old North Walsham-born hotshot has been sidelined since August with a hamstring injury but Manchester City head coach Taylor has confirmed that she is in contention for this weekend’s clash at Walton Hall Park.

Should she feature for The Citizens, Hemp will make her first appearance of the season with the player’s only other outing having come in the FA Women’s Community Shield at Wembley in August when she hobbled off after just 26 minutes.

Hemp starred for City last season, featuring in 14 of her club’s 16 Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixtures, scoring five goals in the process including strikes against Arsenal and Chelsea. The forward’s performances throughout the 2019/2020 campaign saw her crowned the PFA Women’s Young Player of the Year.

Manchester City head coach Taylor has also confirmed that Alex Greenwood and Chloe Kelly are in the frame to face Everton this weekend with the pair having overcome the injuries which they sustained during the international break. Full-back Megan Campbell will not recover from her knock in time to make the squad to face The Blue Girls and she joins long-term absentee Aoife Mannion on the sidelines.

Taylor’s side will be looking to return to winning ways on Merseyside on Sunday following two Manchester derby draws in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and FA Women’s Continental League Cup, they went on to lose a penalty shootout following latter draw.
