New Tottenham Hotspur head coach Rehanne Skinner is looking to implement a greater attacking philosophy in the coming weeks as she aims to steer the club away from the lower reaches of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table.
The former Arsenal assistant head coach replaced former Spurs joint-head coaches Karen Hills and Juan Amoros in the managerial hotseat at The Hive last month and she will oversee her first match in charge of the North Londoners this weekend as they host Brighton & Hove Albion.
When speaking to FA Women’s Super League Full-Time in Spurs’ pre-match press conference, Skinner said that she is planning to implement a more attacking philosophy upon her side.
“There is a certain philosophy and style that we are looking to achieve but it is going to take a little bit of time to get to that point” said Skinner.
“In terms of this weekend, I am hoping that you will begin to see little glimpses of that but that is a lot to ask in a short space of time.
“We will be evolving with a more attacking style of play but it will take a little bit of time to achieve that to the level which I am hoping to get to.”
Spurs welcome fans back to The Hive for the first time since 26 January on Sunday, albeit in socially distanced conditions. Skinner went on to add that she is pleased that the return of fans coincides with her first game in charge of the club.
She added “The timing of having the fans back in is really fortunate for me.
“I am thrilled about the game this week. I can’t wait to get on the grass and have a game under our belt with all of the work that we have been putting in. Although it has been a short period of time, it feels like a lot has gone on in that period.
“Having the fans back in the ground will change the atmosphere in the game and hopefully that will bring a lift.”
Tottenham Hotspur’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion at The Hive kicks-off at 2pm on Sunday afternoon. Tickets are on general sale for fans living within the Government’s Tier 1 and 2 areas. The match will also be available to stream live on the FA Player.
