Chelsea manager Emma Hayes has made the final shortlist for The Best FIFA Women’s Coach accolade at The Best FIFA Football Awards 2020.
World football’s governing body announced the remaining three candidates via their official website this afternoon with Hayes shortlisted alongside Lyon boss Jean-Luc Vasseur and Dutch national team head coach Sarina Wiegman.
Hayes has enjoyed a fruitful 2020 in charge of The Blues despite the unknown challenges brought to elite sport by the COVID-19 pandemic. The 44-year-old guided Chelsea to a first-ever FA Women’s Continental League Cup success last season while the South West Londoners marginally beat Manchester City to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League title on a points-per-game basis.
Chelsea have continued their form in 2020/2021 with The Blues having made a solid start to the new Barclays FA Women’s Super League season while they are into the quarter-finals of the FA Women’s Continental League Cup. Hayes’ side have also made a winning start upon their return to the UEFA Women’s Champions League defeating tournament debutants Benfica 5-0 in the first leg of their round of 32 tie in Portugal on Wednesday.
Hayes will not have too long to wait to learn whether she will be crowned this year’s Best FIFA Women’s Coach. All of The Best FIFA Football Awards winners will be unveiled during a television broadcast on Thursday.
