Danish international defender joins Everton injury list

Danish international defender Rikke Sevecke has joined Everton’s list of absentees with the player having sustained an ankle ligament injury according to reports on The Blue Girls’ official website.

The 24-year-old centre-back was substituted at half-time of Everton’s 1-0 FA Women’s Continental League Cup victory over Merseyside rivals Liverpool at Walton Hall Park last month and she was absent from the squad to face Manchester City last weekend.

Everton boss Willie Kirk has provided an update on the player’s fitness and has confirmed that Sevecke will be sidelined until at least the end of January.

Sevecke has made seven appearances for Everton in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League so far this season with all of those outings coming as starts. She has also featured in five matches in the domestic cups including an appearance in the 2019/2020 Vitality Women’s FA Cup final as Kirk’s side were defeat by Manchester City in extra-time.

The defender is in her first season at Walton Hall Park after joining Everton during the close season. The player started her career in her homeland with Ballerup-Skovlunde Fodbold before joining Brondby where she spent four years. Sevecke played her football outside of her native Denmark for the first time last season during a one-year stay in France with FC Fleury 91  before opting to test herself in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League with Everton this term.
