Crystal Palace’s meeting with Charlton Athletic postponed

Crystal Palace’s FA Women’s Championship fixture against Charlton Athletic has been postponed as a result of several players having to self-isolate in the visitors’ camp with COVID-19 symptoms.

The Addicks announced the news via a short update on their official website yesterday. The two clubs were set to meet at Hayes Lane tomorrow afternoon but the game can no longer go ahead. A new date for the fixture will be agreed in due course.

Crystal Palace will end 2020 in either seventh or eighth position in the FA Women’s Championship table while Charlton Athletic will remain at the bottom, although it should be noted that Riteesh Mishra’s side could hold two games in hand on relegation rivals Coventry United and London Bees.

Despite ending their 2020 fixture schedule early, Crystal Palace go into the break in a positive manner. The Eagles returned to winning ways in the FA Women’s Championship last weekend with an impressive 2-0 victory at Lewes while the club’s first-ever qualification for the FA Women’s Continental League Cup quarter-finals was confirmed in midweek.

Charlton Athletic end the year with three consecutive league defeats. Defensively, The Addicks have been relatively solid and improvement in their ‘goals for’ tally in the New Year could see them survive the drop.
