Brighton & Hove Albion and Chelsea’s outstanding Conti Cup group fixtures cancelled

Brighton & Hove Albion and Chelsea’s outstanding group fixtures in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup will no longer take place, The Football Association have announced.

Chelsea have already qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition while Brighton & Hove Albion have been eliminated.

Both clubs have played just two of their three FA Women’s Continental League Cup group fixtures with their final matches postponed due to COVID-19. Brighton & Hove Albion were set to travel to second tier club Charlton Athletic while Chelsea were scheduled to face London City Lionesses in their final group fixtures but it has now been determined that those ‘dead rubber’ games will not take place.

The Football Association have confirmed that the matter was recently discussed by an independent tribunal with it being determined that both games should not be rescheduled.

The quarter-final draw will now take place this afternoon. The eight qualified teams will find out the identity of their opponents in the next round around 3.55pm when the draw is conducted live on BT Sport 1. No dates for the quarter-finals have been confirmed, however, it is thought that they will take place in January.

It has been confirmed that the 2020/2021 FA Women’s Continental League Cup final will take place on Sunday 14 March with a venue to be determined in due course.
