STATS: Aston Villa keeper Weiss tops save percentage stats going into Christmas break

Aston Villa goalkeeper Lisa Weiss goes into the Christmas break having saved a greater percentage of shots than any other goalkeeper in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

The 33-year-old keeper, who has four senior German international caps to her name, joined Villa in the summer and she has seized the first choice goalkeeping position with both hands.

Weiss has played in seven of Villa’s eight Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches so far this season. Villa have had the third-highest number of attempts on their goal in the league but Weiss has saved 72.9% of those attempts, the greatest percentage of any of the goalkeepers to play in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League in 2020/2021.

The German marginally beats Birmingham City goalkeeper Hannah Hampton’s save percentage by 0.2% while Weiss ranks 4.5% better than Arsenal’s Manuela Zinsberger who is third.

Weiss has made 36 saves from 48 shots. Only West Ham United’s Mackenzie Arnold (40) and Bristol City’s Sophie Baggaley (54) have pulled off more saves than the Villa keeper so far this season.

After being a back-up goalkeeper at European champions Lyon for two seasons, German keeper Weiss is certainly benefitting from regular football once again. The player has proved to be a quality addition for Villa and she is currently one of the most difficult goalkeepers to beat in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.
