Manchester City have this evening released a statement via their official website confirming that four first team players have tested positive for COVID-19.
The players, who have not been named by the club, will now undergo a period of self-isolation before returning to training. It is not known whether any other members of the City squad are being made to also self-isolate as a result.
Manchester City have a hectic run of fixtures throughout January and it is not yet known whether the positive COVID-19 tests in the camp will impact any of those matches. Gareth Taylor’s side are scheduled to face West Ham United in a Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture at The Academy Stadium on Saturday before hosting Chelsea in the quarter-finals of the FA Women’s Continental League Cup in nine days’ time.
City are also set to host Aston Villa and travel to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League before the month comes to an end.
The Manchester City men’s team have also been hit with COVID-19 in recent days with two members of the group having tested positive for the virus over the weekend.
After nine Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches, City find themselves in fourth position in the table. They will have at least one game in hand on the top two sides following the coming weekend’s action while they currently find themselves eight points off the summit.
