Sheffield United head coach Neil Redfearn has taken time to praise youngster Tamara Wilcock for stepping up from the club’s development team into the first team squad prior to the Christmas break.
The 17-year-old had scored 11 goals in seven appearances for the development team this season before being drafted into the senior squad where the player has since featured three times on the bench.
Wilcock has been awarded the number 15 shirt by Sheffield United which was vacated by Hannah Coan following her brief loan spell with the club last year.
When speaking to Sheffield United’s official media channels about Wilcock’s qualities, Redfearn said “She’s a really talented young player, she can play as an attacking midfielder and further forward as a striker.
“The good thing about Tamara is she’s not looked out of place.”
Redfearn has expressed his desire to bring in new recruits and strengthen his squad during the January transfer window, however, given the United coach’s track record of putting his faith in youth, he is unlikely to hold back from offering senior opportunities to Wilcock and some of her academy teammates.
Sheffield United’s first game back after the winter break is a mammoth clash away at title rivals Leicester City. The Blades know that a win could close up the gap on The Foxes to four points but defeat could severely dent the South Yorkshire club’s title hopes even at this stage.
