Birmingham City head coach Carla Ward has raided former club Sheffield United to sign Greek international forward Veatriki Sarri.
The 22-year-old has penned an 18-month deal at the SportNation.bet Stadium with the Blues paying an undisclosed fee for the player’s services as reported on the club’s official website.
Birmingham City boss Ward has had to contend with having a wafer-thin squad available to her during the first half of the season and Sarri becomes her first addition of the January transfer window, although she almost certainly won’t be the last new face to arrive at the club this month.
Sarri spent the early years of her senior career with lower division clubs Leeds United and AFC Fylde before joining Sheffield United in 2018. The forward netted four FA Women’s Championship goals in 36 appearances for The Blades. Three of those goals came last season as Sheffield United narrowly missed out on promotion to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.
On the international stage, Sarri has scored one goal in 12 senior outings for Greece which came in a UEFA Women’s EURO 2017 qualifier against Romania in Katerini. The forward made seven appearances for her country in their latest EURO qualifying campaign in the run up to England 2022.
Sarri could make her Birmingham City debut against Tottenham Hotspur at The Hive on Sunday.
