Promotion hopefuls Leicester City sign Watford goalkeeper

Leicester City have completed the signing of goalkeeper Sophie Harris from FA Women’s National League South side Watford according to reports on The Foxes’ official website.

The 26-year-old stopper is Jonathan Morgan’s first signing of the January window and she will provide stiff competition for Kirstie Levell in The Foxes’ goal whilst Demi Lambourne is out injured.

Harris began her senior career at Arsenal before making the switch to London Bees. The keeper then had spells at both Brighton & Hove Albion and Lewes before joining The Hornets in July 2020.

After her move to Farley Way was sealed, Harris told Leicester City’s official club media channels “I’m excited to get things going.

“I’ve had a look already and I’ve met a few of the girls, and they’ve been really nice, really welcoming.

“Jonathan (Morgan), straight away, was really positive and keen to get me in. Then, when I came down here, obviously the facilities are amazing and I think it gives you the platform to be the best you can, really, and really kick on.”

Harris could be named in the Leicester City squad this weekend when they welcome title rivals Sheffield United to Farley Way for a crucial fixture which could have a real impact on the remainder of the season.

Leicester City currently sit top of the table and in pole position for gaining promotion to the top tier, however, Durham remain just a solitary point behind Morgan’s side and without a defeat this season. The Wildcats will be ready to pounce if The Foxes slip up. As for Sheffield United, a victory would see them close the gap on Leicester City to just four points which would mean that The Blades are still very much in the hunt for the title.

With the title race proving to be so tight and competitive, it could very easily go down to the wire and it will be fascinating to see who comes out on top on Sunday.
