Brighton & Hove Albion manager Hope Powell believes that scoring goals is the biggest area for her side to improve in 2021.
Albion have netted just seven goals in 10 Barclays FA Women’s Super League games, just one goal more than bottom club Bristol City.
The Seagulls are scheduled to travel to Twerton Park to face the relegation-threatened Robins tomorrow in a game which will see Albion come up against a side who have conceded a whopping 4.5 goals on average per game so far this season.
When speaking to FA Women’s Super League Full-Time before the match, Powell highlighted the fact that improvement was needed in her side’s ‘goals for’ column.
“We have been playing quite well but we’ve just had some issues with scoring” said Powell.
“I’m pleased with the way that we have been playing, I’m just not pleased with the way that we have not been scoring enough to take that pressure off.
“Hopefully, that will change, the girls recognise it and are working very hard to ensure that we give ourselves the best chance of winning games.
“Until the ball goes into the back of the net, we are doing everything the best that we can do.”
A first victory of the season for Bristol City this weekend would see Tanya Oxtoby’s side cut the gap between themselves and Albion to just three points. Powell is therefore only too aware of the importance of the match as her side look to put further daylight between themselves and the relegation place.
She added “It’s a big game for both clubs because of the positions that we are in.
“Fortunately, we are higher than them at the moment and we want it to remain that way.
“It is an opportunity for us, just like it is an opportunity for them, but we are going there to win the game.”
Bristol City’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion is currently scheduled to kick-off at 2pm on Sunday afternoon and will be available to stream live on the FA Player.
