Birmingham City defender Rachel Corsie has confirmed that she is returning the the American National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) this month.
The 31-year-old joined Birmingham City on a loan deal from the Utah Royals in August with the arrangement pencilled in to end this month.
In her recent column in Scottish media outlet the Evening Express, Corsie has confirmed that she is returning to the United States this month and will link up with the National Women’s Soccer League’s (NWSL) 2021 expansion team Kansas City with Utah Royals’ rights having been sold to a new ownership group.
During her time at Birmingham City, Corsie has very much been a rock in the Blues defence for head coach Carla Ward. The Scottish international centre-back has made seven Barclays FA Women’s Super League appearances for the club, helping Birmingham City record clean sheets in matches against Reading, Bristol City and most-notably, in the Second City derby as her side won 1-0 at Villa. Corsie also made two appearances for the Blues in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup and helped the club reach the 2019/2020 Vitality Women’s FA Cup semi-finals.
With Birmingham City’s wafer-thin squad depleted by injuries and the departure of Corsie, head coach Ward will be actively looking to bring in new players ahead of the club’s next scheduled fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.
