Highly-rated Chelsea forward joins Birmingham City

Birmingham City head coach Carla Ward has completed the impressive loan signing of highly-rated young Chelsea forward Emily Murphy according to reports on the Blues’ official club website.

The 17-year-old striker made her senior footballing debut for the South West Londoners in Chelsea’s 5-1 FA Women’s Continental League Cup victory over Tottenham Hotspur last season and is one of the most promising young prospects on the club’s books.

It has today been reported that Murphy has joined Chelsea’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League rivals Birmingham City on a loan deal which will run until the end of the season. The move should see the youngster finally get the regular first team football that she deserves. The player has played less than four hours of senior football in her career to date yet she has netted four goals including a brace on her full Chelsea debut against Charlton Athletic in last season’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup.

Murphy joined Chelsea in summer 2019 from London rivals Arsenal and while the move has offered the player experience of senior football, she needs to be playing week in, week out to help her reach her very top performance levels.

The forward could make her debut for Birmingham City against Brighton & Hove Albion at The SportNation.bet Stadium on Sunday.
