Coventry United’s highly-rated forward Shannon O’Brien has joined FA Women’s Championship leaders Leicester City for an undisclosed fee according to reports on The Foxes’ official website.
The 19-year-old, who can also operate in a deeper midfielder role, is one of the brightest young talents in the FA Women’s Championship having starred in her 18 months playing at that level. She is undoubtedly a player who will be able to step up into Barclays FA Women’s Super League football in the coming years.
It has been reported that O’Brien has signed a contract with Leicester City that will keep her at Farley Way until summer 2022 while she could make her debut for Jonathan Morgan’s side against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
O’Brien netted an impressive five goals in 12 FA Women’s Championship matches for Coventry United last season, a campaign which was their first in the second tier. The player has managed to score just the one goal so far this term but she will be keen to make her mark for her new club, whether that be playing in midfield or in attack.
The youngster is the second player to join Leicester City in the last 24 hours. Yesterday saw the arrival of young midfielder Charlotte Fleming from Chelsea.
Leicester City go into Sunday’s meeting with Palace three points clear at the FA Women’s Championship summit with just nine games remaining.
