‘It was one of our best performances’ says London Bees defender Robert after defeat at Durham

London Bees defender Georgia Robert believes that her side’s 1-0 defeat at Durham was one of The Bees’ best away performances of the season so far.

Lee Burch’s side were unlucky not to take the lead when Nicola Cousins saw an effort strike the bar in the opening 10 minutes in the North East before The Bees continued to trouble the hosts’ goal in the remainder of the first half with Sophie McLean and Amelia Hazard looking particularly lively.

When speaking to FA Women’s Super League Full-Time after the match, Robert said that London Bees’ performance was one of their best away from The Hive so far this season.

“I would say that this is definitely one of our best away performances” the defender said. “We had a tough start to the season and struggled to find form but as it has gone on, we have been really solid at home.

“To be able to transfer that into an away fixture is big for us.

“We are really going to try to kick on for the remainder of this season.”

London Bees have now failed to score in any of their last three away league fixtures but they certainly displayed a more attack-minded attitude at Durham this afternoon. At the time that the game was goalless, The Bees always looked like they might have a goal in them and on another day, the final result could have been different. Defender Robert singled out teammate Hazard for praise for her attacking contribution in the match.

She said “We had a couple of issues, one of our strikers was ill and we had to change it at the last minute but it worked absolutely spot on for us.

“Amelia (Hazard) offered something that we have not really had.

“We have definitely been lacking going forward so having Amelia up there offered us something that we’ve not had this season. It was good for us today.”

London Bees return to action in a fortnight’s time when Sheffield United are the visitors to The Hive in the FA Women’s Championship.
