‘We don’t give up, we just keep giving’ says Durham’s goalscoring hero Galloway

Durham forward Bridget Galloway highlighted her side’s never-say-die attitude after her goal helped The Wildcats defeat London Bees 1-0 at Maiden Castle this afternoon.

The 21-year-old netted the game’s only goal early in the second half as Durham collected the three points which takes them back level with FA Women’s Championship leaders Leicester City.

Durham had to bide their time for the chances to come their way in a tough encounter against a potentially dangerous Bees side. When the ball fell to Galloway a few yards from goal, she made no mistake in directing it into the corner of the net.

Speaking to FA Women’s Super League Full-Time after the match, Galloway said that Durham simply never give up.

“It was a hard game but in the end, we got all three points” said the forward. “We grafted until the end. That’s what is so good about this team, we never give up, we keep giving and giving no matter what.”

The game was predictably difficult for Durham with lesser opponents having made a habit of making life difficult for The Wildcats at Maiden Castle this season. Galloway went on to add that Durham must look to score early to take the sting out of opponents like London Bees.

She added “I think we just love to have a challenge, we always make it hard for ourselves.

“We need to start getting that early goal in the game and settle it down. It showed in the second half that as soon as we got that goal, we took control and it was a completely different game.”

Galloway was teed up for her goal by former Sunderland teammate Danielle Brown, a player who has made a positive impact at Maiden Castle since joining Durham in November. She highlighted some of the qualities which Brown brings to the side.

“Dan (Brown) is unreal” said Galloway. “Down that wing she is rapid, she has got quick feet and she gets the ball in the box.

“She assisted Molly (Sharpe) in the last home game then assisted me today.

“She has just got really good quality.”

Durham continue their push for promotion against London City Lionesses at Princes Park in a fortnight’s time.
