Interim Aston Villa manager Marcus Bignot will take charge of the club for the first time on Wednesday evening when Chelsea are the visitors to The Banks’s Stadium.
The 46-year-old former Birmingham City boss has been brought in by Villa this week to help develop the team and secure Barclays FA Women’s Super League football for another season. Head coach Gemma Davies will remain in her role and is expected to work alongside Bignot.
Villa go into their latest Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Chelsea on the back of a 2-2 home draw with Reading at the weekend, a result which saw them collect their first home point of the season. The Villains are again expected to be without Ella Franklin-Fraiture and Ramona Petzelberger with both players sidelined with injury. Jodie Hutton returned to the squad on Saturday while Chloe Arthur is back in training and could come into contention.
Chelsea make the trip to The Midlands on the back of the postponement of Sunday’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture at Bristol City due to snow. Manager Emma Hayes is not thought to have any injury concerns to contend with as her side look to reclaim their position at the top of the table.
