Arjan Veurink to assist new Lionesses head coach Wiegman

The Football Association have today announced that The Netherlands’ current assistant coach Arjan Veurink will assist new Lionesses head coach Sarina Wiegman when she takes over later this year.

Wiegman and Veurink have worked together with the Dutch national team for more than three years, guiding the nation to UEFA Women’s EURO success on home soil in 2017 and helping Oranje to a first FIFA Women’s World Cup final appearance in France in 2019 where they were eventually defeated by the United States.

The Football Association announced Veurink’s appointment via an official press release to FA Women’s Super League Full-Time earlier today.

The 34-year-old started his coaching career in regional football in The Netherlands with OZC before moving to FC Twente where he worked with the club’s women’s side. Veurink worked in various roles during his time with ‘The Pride of the East’ including working as an Under-23s coach, an assistant coach and the club’s head coach. Veurink then became assistant coach to Wiegman with the Dutch national team and the pair have never looked back.

Wiegman and Veurink will take up their positions with England in September with the pair set to become the first non-british coaching team of the Lionesses.
