Manchester United forward Press returns to US squad for SheBelieves Cup

Manchester United forward Christen Press has returned to the United States squad for this month’s SheBelieves Cup.

United States head coach Vlatko Andonovski has this afternoon named his 23-player squad for the upcoming tournament with Press being included.

The 32-year-old missed the January camp after suffering a non-COVID illness and with the player opting to remain in Manchester to build up her fitness but she will return to action for The Stars and Stripes later this month.

Press’ Manchester United teammate Tobin Heath is again absent from the United States squad with the player having recently been ruled out for up to 12 weeks with an ankle injury. Manchester City trio Abby Dahlkemper, Rose Lavelle and Sam Mewis have all been included by head coach Andonovski once again after the trio featured in the January camp during which the United States recorded two friendly victories over Colombia in Florida.

It has been confirmed that the majority of the United States squad will come together for a pre-tournament training camp on 8 February, however, those players playing in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League will not have to join up with their national teammates until 13 February. United States head coach Andonovski previously told FA Women’s Super League Full-time that the English-based players will be available for the Manchester derby on 12 February and there is no indication that this stance has changed.

This year’s SheBelieves Cup begins on 18 February and will see the United States take on Brazil, Canada and Argentina.
