Stand-in Bristol City boss Beard has lifted spirits says midfielder Daniels

Yana Daniels played a key role as Bristol City cruised to their first Barclays FA Women’s Super League victory of the season against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.

The Robins defeated The Seagulls 3-0 at Twerton Park as Matt Beard’s side made a mockery of the league placings.

Bristol City’s number 10, Daniels, opened up the scoring with a beautifully deft finish and she was also on the end of Kayleigh Green’s forceful stamp, resulting in a red card for the Albion player. Speaking in the post-match press conference in which FAWSL Full-Time were present, Daniels said that her 20-yard goal was down to The Robins’ analysis of visiting goalkeeper Cecilie Fiskerstrand.

“We spoke about it before the game” said Daniels. “The girls were saying that sometimes she (Fiskerstrand) is far off her line, so if you have a chance just take the shot.

Daniels went on to credit her father for her shooting prowess by saying “My dad always said if you don’t shoot, you don’t score.

“I’ve been thinking about it lately because I haven’t scored for a while and I took the shot and it went in.”

The 28-year-old said that Bristol City’s victory over Albion felt like a weight had been lifted off the players’ shoulders and she then went on to highlight the impact which stand-in boss Beard has made since his arrival at the club.

“Matt has made a really good impact on the team” she said. “Football is all about confidence and he’s lifted the whole spirits of the team.

“They’re tough sessions, everyone is knackered, but it pays off luckily.”

In the second half, Daniels was on the end of Green’s studs after the Albion player appeared to let the frustrations of the game get to her. Yet, the Belgian forward was accepting of the conditions that resulted in the incident.

She commented by saying “It was a really tough and feisty game and it happens in football, there’s so much passion.

“She (Green) apologised and it’s forgotten about already.”

The Robins and Daniels welcome Leicester City to Twerton Park on Wednesday evening as the club hope to reach the final of the FA Women’s Continental League Cup.
