Centre-back Gabby George has been named in the Everton squad for the first time in almost a year ahead of this afternoon’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Birmingham City at Walton Hall Park.
The 24-year-old England international defender ruptured her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) during last season’s 5-0 victory over Bristol City in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.
George has spent a lengthy period on the sidelines recovering from her cruel injury blow but this afternoon finally marks her long-awaited return to the Everton squad. The defender has been named on the bench for Willie Kirk’s side as they look to return to winning ways in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League following their 2-0 home defeat to Manchester United last weekend.
Everton signed George back in 2014 after the player had spent her youth in academies at Blackpool and Manchester United. The defender made her senior debut against Notts County in April that year and she has gone on to become one of the best centre-backs that the English game has to offer. In 2017, George became the first player to sign professional terms with Everton.
George was an ever-present for The Blue Girls in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League last season prior to her injury. She will be hoping to now get a string of games together and help her side push for a top three finish.
