Chelsea trio Zećira Mušović, Jonna Andersson and Magdalena Eriksson will not be permitted to travel to Malta with the Sweden squad for next week’s Visit Malta Women’s Trophy.
The Swedish Football Association, the SvFF, issued a squad update on their official website earlier today, confirming that Chelsea trio Mušović, Andersson and Eriksson will no longer be part of the squad.
The trio were selected in Swedish head coach Peter Gerhardsson’s initial 27-player squad for this month’s Visit Malta Women’s Trophy friendly tournament, however, it has now been revealed that the players have had to pull out due to Malta’s travel restrictions for those planning to travel to the nation from England. The Chelsea trio have been replaced in the Swedish squad by Emma Holmgren, Amanda Nildén and Emma Kullberg.
Sweden will play two matches at the tournament. They take on Austria next Friday before facing tournament hosts Malta four days later. Both games will be staged at Hibernians Ground in Paola.
Arsenal goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger was called up into the Austrian squad for the tournament, however, it is thought that she will also miss out due to having to face the same travel restrictions as Mušović, Andersson and Eriksson. The Austrian Football Association, the OFB, are yet to officially confirm Zinsberger’s withdrawal.
