United States forward Press ‘so proud’ to see Manchester United teammate make Brazil debut

United States international forward Christen Press says that she was ‘so proud’ to see Manchester United teammate Ivana Fuso make her senior debut for Brazil on Thursday evening.

Ivana replaced Chu Santos in the 67th minute of Brazil’s opening 2021 SheBelieves Cup fixture against Argentina, a game that Pia Sundhage’s side went on to win 4-1.

Manchester United pair Press and Ivana could find themselves facing each other on Sunday evening when the United States take on Brazil in Orlando, Florida. When speaking to FAWSL Full-Time in the United States pre-match press conference, Press said that she was ‘so proud’ of her club teammate Ivana for making her senior international debut in midweek.

“I was so proud to see her make her debut” said Press. “It was such a big deal.

“She is such a great person and a very promising player and it has been really interesting to have her on my team with her Brazilian flair in the English league.

“She has shown a lot of growth, even in the short time that I have been there, it is always fun to face your teammates at international level.”

Press is playing outside of her native America once again this season following previous spells in the Swedish top flight, the Damallsvenskan, with Goteborg FC and Tyreso FF. The player went on to admit that she is thoroughly enjoying testing herself in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

“I have enjoyed my time overseas” said Press “There is something that is really freeing about playing internationally and outside of your domestic league.

“There are so many challenges culturally, even when you are in a country where they speak the same language as you.

“I think the difference in football style and how that is reflective in society is just fascinating to me.

“To do that again in England has just been a great experience.”

The SheBelieves Cup fixture between the United States and Brazil takes place at 8pm (UK time) on Sunday evening with the winners set to move into a great position to go on to lift the trophy.
