Manchester United have been dealt a fresh injury blow with winger Leah Galton having sustained an ankle ligament injury which will see her sidelined for at least two months according to reports on The Red Devils’ official club website.
The 26-year-old has been an influential figure in United’s attacking moves throughout this season but she will now join fellow attacker Tobin Heath on the sidelines for a similar period with both players not expected to return until at least the end of April.
Galton has started all 15 of United’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixtures this season while she has scored six goals. She is one of just four United players to feature in every league fixture as the club have made a push for a first Barclays FA Women’s Super League title.
Despite being top of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table at Christmas, three defeats in five league matches in 2021 has resulted in United slipping down to third place. With the club now having a six-point gap to bridge between themselves and league leaders Chelsea, their bad luck with injuries has left them with an uphill battle.
United return to Barclays FA Women’s Super League action after the international break with a home fixture against Aston Villa on Sunday 7 March.
