Manchester United will be looking to strengthen their place in the top three of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table when they face struggling Aston Villa at The Leigh Sports Village on Sunday.
The Red Devils are six points clear of fourth-placed Arsenal, however, they have played a game more than The Gunners. United have lost both of their last two league fixtures against Reading and neighbours Manchester City.
United boss Casey Stoney could welcome back England international Lucy Staniforth to her side with the player having made good progress in her recovery from injury during the international break. Defender Kirsty Smith remains sidelined, as do attacking quartet Tobin Heath, Leah Galton, Lauren James and Alessia Russo.
Aston Villa make the trip to Leigh without at least three first team players. Interim manager Marcus Bignot will be without long-term absentee Ella Franklin-Fraiture while Ramona Petzelberger and Diana Silva are also sidelined. Winger Shania Hayles is pushing for a recall to starting XI after only being named amongst the substitutes to face Arsenal last weekend.
Manchester United’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Aston Villa is scheduled to kick-off at midday on Sunday and will be available for fans to stream live on the FA Player.
