Arsenal defender Beattie sidelined with hamstring strain

Scotland international defender Jen Beattie is unavailable for Arsenal as they face Birmingham City at St George’s Park this afternoon.

The 29-year-old Glasgow-born centre-back is understood to have twinged a hamstring in last weekend’s 4-0 victory over struggling Aston Villa at The Banks’s Stadium and she will play no part against Birmingham City this afternoon.

Last weekend’s appearance at Villa was Beattie’s second of 2021 and it came to an end 10 minutes from time when the player was replaced by England international Lotte Wubben-Moy.

In addition to Beattie’s absence, Arsenal continue to also be without long-term absentees Steph Catley and Viktoria Schnaderbeck. The club confirmed Beattie’s absence via a post on their official club Twitter account ahead of kick-off.

The Gunners are looking to record back-to-back wins in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League for the first time since October in Burton upon Trent this afternoon. Inconsistent form throughout the winter combined with a catalogue of injuries have arguably cost Joe Montemurro’s side a shot at the league title and it could yet result in them missing out on a place in Europe.

Arsenal come up against a Birmingham City side who have lost home advantage for the second week running with The Football Association having opted to move the club’s home fixture to St George’s Park following concerns over the facilities at their usual SportNation.bet Stadium venue. Carla Ward’s side were defeated 4-0 by Manchester City in their first fixture at St George’s Park last weekend.
