Everton have agreed a new two-year contract with highly-rated goalkeeper Sandy MacIver according to reports on The Blue Girls’ official website.
The 22-year-old joined Everton in January 2020 after graduating from Clemson University in the United States and the player has gone on to successfully claim the club’s first choice goalkeeping jersey.
MacIver has started 14 of Everton’s 16 fixtures in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League this season, keeping five clean sheets in the process. The youngster was also named the Player of the Match as her side were defeated 3-1 by Manchester City after extra-time in the 2019/2020 Vitality Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley in November.
With MacIver being one of The Blue Girls’ most promising young talents, the club have moved quickly to secure her future with the player signing on at Walton Hall Park for two more years. The keeper will continue to help Everton climb the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table with the view to qualifying for the UEFA Women’s Champions League in the coming years.
On the international stage, MacIver was included in temporary England coach Hege Riise’s first squad for last month’s international friendly against Northern Ireland at St George’s Park. She came off the bench to play the last 30 minutes of the Lionesses’ 6-0 victory, making her senior international debut.
If selected, MacIver will face the difficult task of keeping out Barclays FA Women’s Super League champions Chelsea when Everton take on The Blues in their next fixture at Walton Hall Park on Wednesday.
