Chelsea’s latest UEFA Women’s Champions League opponents VfL Wolfsburg warmed up for their quarter-final first leg tie with The Blues in midweek with a 7-0 DFB Pokal-Frauen victory over Werder Bremen yesterday.
The pair are scheduled to meet in the first of two legs to be played on neutral territory in Budapest on Wednesday afternoon with the winners taking on either Rosengard or Bayern Munich in the semi-finals.
VfL Wolfsburg were in action ahead of that tie as they faced FLYERALARM Frauen-Bundesliga strugglers Werder Bremen at the AOK Stadion yesterday in the quarter-finals of the DFB Frauen-Bundesliga-Pokal. The She-Wolves cruised to a 7-0 victory as they took another step towards winning the trophy for a seventh consecutive year.
It took Stephan Lerch’s side 29 minutes to break the deadlock before quick-fire goals from Rebecka Blomqvist and Alexandra Popp soon gave them a two-goal lead. Lena Oberdorf then struck a third goal for the hosts before Svenja Huth hit a fourth just before half-time.
VfL Wolfsburg extended their lead through fortunate circumstances early in the second half when Franziska Jaser put the ball into her own net before Popp completed her brace as the German champions went 6-0 up.
Ewa Pajor scored the seventh and final goal for Lerch’s side as they completed a resounding victory ahead of that midweek showdown with Chelsea in Hungary.
